Welcome to FLME 4910: Game Studies

Hello, students, and welcome to your Senior Seminar on Game Studies. This is a theory-based course that will guide you through the last several decades of thought on play, games, procedures, and phenomena, as well as the cultural, historical, and social impacts of video games as a global mass medium.

Throughout this course you may find yourself challenged by difficult or complex readings and theories. This blog is a resource for you. Beyond the grade for the completion and quality of your posts (see the syllabus for that), I hope you will see this blog as a resource for you to bounce ideas off of your peers, debate critical issues, unpack theoretical implications, and lay the groundwork for what will become your final paper.

Each of you will be added as a content contributor with a unique username and password. If you need to contact me, please do NOT use the embedded Contact button, as I believe that will send your email to ALL of us. Instead, consult the syllabus and email me at the address you will find at the top of the first page.

Remember: each student is required to post during the first week of class, and each student is required to make two comments during the first week as well.

I’m very much looking forward to following the progress of this blog. Exceptional posts and comments will find their way into classroom discussion. Remember to keep the discussion civil and constructive.

Have fun!
