When I read Bryce and Rutter’s journal “Killing Like a Girl”, I was offended by the title of their journal. I felt that the unfair gender role plays strongly in the gaming field when I read through their journal. How can killing in a game be different from women and men? I’ve experienced a lot of unfair gender role play in the game world. I’ve met the rudest player in League of Legends and Overwatch. Some of the male players chat a harmful and disgusting word to me when they lose the game, or some male gamers rule out the fact that I may be a woman and conclude that I’m just a man.
Because of this, I never tell my gender to my teammates. Never. Also, I never use voice chat with my teammate while I play the League of Legends. I try to not be afraid of rude players in the game, but when it became violent, I just shut them off and report their ID after the game for abusive chats. League of Legends’s company Riot is good at eliminating these rude users with our reports. However, Overwatch is bad for eliminating these mean users so, many female players quit Overwatch.
I think the role of the game management team is really important to keep and to maintain a clean and comfortable game world. And If they could maintain the clean cyberspace, then there will be more polite and kind female and male players in the game. But the bad management team would only increase the rude players to their game and make a bad reputation for the game for new players. And cyberbullying for the female player will increase if they don’t take care of their game. So, in my perspective, if there’s good game management exist, then there will be less unfair gender bullying.
Gender bullying will unfortunately still be a thing as long as there are stereotypical stances on an idea of what is an “approved” gendered in the gaming space. D:<

Yes, this is true. I also felt some sort of offense to the title of the reading as well. There is always gendered roles problems in every field I believe. It has also been a problem for the game industry world. Killing is killing, man OR woman. I’m sorry to hear that you have dealt with the nastiness of rude players due to the fact that you are a female player, it just isn’t right. I agree that if a clean and healthy cyberspace is kept in tact that the game world would be a better world to partake in for everyone especially females.

Thank you for understanding my situation about gender cyberbullying. I felt much better after reading your comments. I think the game industry should change first, and then as time goes on, the grumpy players will disappear. Also, I appreciate your point of view about this issue.
